Dear Ruby,

Being 4 months old, I am pretty sure you have never read the Twilight Series but you have a lot of free time- so who knows. I , however, read them obsessively while you were in utero. Call it hormones, a love for abstinence porn, or a desperate need to reconnect with the "highschool me", who knows. I craved the bad boy "I'm stalking you and watching you sleep" Edward and longed for the " Boy next store who wants to "show" you how much he loves you" Jacob. Putting aside ALL of my feminist leanings, I wrapped my hugely pregnant body in the down comforter and poored through the books, waiting for the heroine,Bella, to choose who she would love - and lets face it - have unapologetic, hot, ankle grabbing sex with. Lets not get into how dissapointed I was when there WAS none, but that is another letter- ANYWAY-Whenever I would talk with other Twilighters, they would always ask " Team Edward or Team Jacob? Who should Bella end up with?" Initially I had a deep and heartfelt answer- I knew who would be the better..well..let's just say "catch". It wasn't untill you were born, that I discovered whose team I was really on. I am Team Bella. Never would I want anyone's sexuality to be controlled, defined, or restricted by who they love, sleep with, pine after, whatever they do ( or don't do-Stephenie Meyer: You owe me an island scene). I want you to know that women are strong, courageous, don't need protecting- but sometimes it's okay to want it, self satisifying creatures who can be alone and be happy. Someday, you will read the Twilight Series and your father will tell you how I locked him out of the bedroom to read just one more chapter. All I can hope is that, by then, you will have figured out who is on your team and that I am your biggest fan.
